Andrew McAuley
An official inquest has begun for the death of Australian kayaker Andrew McAuley who was attempting to be the first to paddle from Australia to New Zealand.
For many of you who followed he was within a day of landing when they received a garbled message to say that he was in distress.
The inquest is going to look at what happened and try to see if they can figure out what happened by examining the photos and video that was recovered when they found his overturned boat. They are also going to review the search procedure to see if they can make any improvements to the way it was handled.
I couldn't find any information on how long the inquest is expected to last.
