A CANOE and kayak club launched by Northumberland College's outdoor education team is proving to be a major success story.

Students can now participate in various activities including play boating and flat water coaching to develop personal and coaching skills outside of normal college time.

The club is based at the college's Water Sports Centre in South Harbour, Port of Blyth, and has already proved a success with 24 members having joined so far

It is run by a team of highly qualified and experienced coaches, including Fergus Lynch of the British Canoe Club and Carl Halliday of the British Canoe Union.

Carl, who is also a course team leader for outdoor education and training at Northumberland College, said: "The canoe and kayak club will be a great benefit to the local community offering various opportunities to people who would like to try this exciting activity"

The club is open to all members of the community.
